Michel Soumrani
Michel Soumrani graduated from the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Saint Joseph University with an LLB in Private Law. He holds two LL.Ms, one in Private Law, the other in Public Law. He also obtained an LL.D from Paris University for a thesis entitled “The legal status of the banks in cessation of payments in Lebanon”, which won the Unique Prize of the Institute of Comparative Law in Paris (“Le régime juridique des banques en état de cessation de paiements au Liban, éd. Antoine 1974, préface R. Rodière). Michel Soumrani remains a leading member of the Lebanese dispute resolution community, and stands out for his experience in Arbitration. He also has an extensive experience in aviation law, banking and finance law, commercial law and administrative law. He is appointed sole arbitrator, member and chairman of arbitral tribunals in several international proceedings under the Rules of the ICC. Michel Soumrani is the author of several legal studies in Lebanese and French specialized legal gazettes. Apart from his professional activities, he is a professor of international economic law at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Saint Joseph University, and member of several committees, such as the Ministry of Justice committee for the modernization of the Code of commerce, the Beirut Bar Association ethics committee and the High Council of Arbitration of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Beirut. He has been a member of the Beirut Bar Association since 1966.
